Opie at the Louvre

Hi-ho - long time no write. Bet y'all aren't even reading this anymore. Still peeved about the off-line discussion yet lack of comments, but I'll share this one anyway just because it's too weird even for email.

So, I'm at a conference in Paris presently and I leave my hotel around 8 pm to go out for a bite to eat. Decide to head across the river to a cafe I heard of on the Blvd. St. Germain (Les Deux Magots - very nice and relaxing - I just hope it doesn't translate to the 2 maggots...). The route I need to go there takes me past the Louvre, which I've never really been to. The glass pyramid is all lit up in the night and beckons, so I decide to stroll up the plaza and have a look about. I turn around once on top of the steps (there are some gates and stuff and a gaggle of people milling about which I didn't pay a lot of attention to) - and it's night and has been rainy so the whole city has a blurry look to it, but I'm looking out from the front of the Louvre, down across the gardens of the Tulieries (sp?) - the Arc de Triomphe is lit up in the distance with the blur of lights on the Champs Elysees and, to the left, the Eiffel Tower is beaming this big searchlight through the mist, shining over the Siene and the Musee D'Orsay...I just stood there and was taking it all in, sighing appreciatively, I suppose...and some guy next to me says to someone he's with "Beautiful, isn't it?" - and I turn and its...no kidding...Ron Howard. With his little hat and all. And he even sounded just like Richie Cunningham! How utterly bizzarre. I guess he's filming some movie in Paris. Because I passed his little crew again on the way back from dinner, on the Pont Royal. I think he's stalking me...
